Themes: Ignorance v.s Knowledge

There were a lot of themes in Fahrenheit 451 but the theme "Ignorance v.s Knowledge" appealed to me the most. The reason for writing this blog is to look deeper into that theme, so you'll understand the author's reason for writing this novel.

While reading the novel, there was a conflict between being happy while not knowing anything and the happiness in attaining knowledge. The protagonist in the story, Guy  Montag after learning the joys of learning, fights to protect his own beliefs from a society that shuns people who embraces knowledge.
Guy Montag's meeting with Clarisse McClellan
For starters, Guy Montag was once just like everyone esle till he met a girl named Clarisse who filled him with questions and interesting things to think about. Guy Montag wasn't your average citizen either, his job was to burn books to destroy knowledge deemed "harmful" by his boss, Captain Beatty. After a series of events from the point of meeting Clarisse, Montag came to the conclusion that his life was more complete when knowledge was welcomed in it.

Somewhere later in the story, Montag was determined to print the Bible so other people also learn from it with help from a guy named Faber. In short, they both became partners in crime. Montag was determined to help others to welcome knowledge into people's life and to fight ignorance. Montag was on a mission sent by Faber in his own house. Montag was really annoyed by the way Mildred's friends thought of life and used poetry to chase them out of his house. Montag hopes that the emotions given from his poetry will change the way they see life again.

So in conclusion, the author is trying to tell us that having the freedom to think and gain free knowledge is better than living in ignorance. The author has shown us this through the seemingly utopian society that Guy montag lives in and how Montag figures out the sweet joys of gaining knowledge
